Groundwater Remediation

GROUNDWATER  REMEDIATION

SUSTAINANBLE DEVELOPMENT with much required focus on ecosystem, biodiversity etc. is what everybody is concerned these days in every part of the world, but successful implementation of such goals requires a broadly accepted view.

Limited attention is paid towards the role of water-related processes in the life support system,  Water, through its many different functions, plays multiple roles in the dynamics of ecosystems and social systems.

There are TWO main challenges involved for lowering the impact of water mediated problems on Ecosystem:

  1. The basic needs of the society for water and water-dependent food and energy cannot be met without causing unavoidable water-mediated impacts on local groundwater sources on which the society mainly depends to fulfill their needs of water.
  2. Another set of impacts on ecosystems are principally avoidable in the sense that they are due to mismanagement, especially in terms of irrigation mismanagement, waste flows, and leaching of agricultural chemicals and other contaminants.

Water withdrawn from Borewells, Tubewells and Dugwells etc. is carried out to settlements, cities and industries. After use, it goes back to the water system as a return flow of wastewater, often loaded with pollutants, unless far-reaching waste water treatment has been carried out.

Driving Forces for securing long-term ecosystem productivity

Groundwater remediation is the process that is used to remove pollution from groundwater.
Contaminants found in ground water cover a broad range of physical, inorganic chemical, organic chemical, bacteriological, and radioactive parameters. Pollutants and contaminants can be removed from ground water by applying various techniques thereby making it safe for use.

There are various Ground water remediation techniques spanned with biological, chemical and physical treatment.
